The Pathology Department at HMC plays a central role in healthcare delivery, offering an extensive range of advanced diagnostic services designed to meet the evolving needs of clinicians and patients alike. Equipped with state-of-the-art technology and staffed by highly qualified faculty and expertly trained laboratory personnel, our department is committed to upholding the highest standards in laboratory medicine.

Our operations are meticulously aligned with ISO quality management systems. We proudly hold ISO 9001:2015 certification and are actively working toward ISO 15189 accreditation, underscoring our commitment to quality and precision. To maintain excellence in diagnostics, we have established a rigorous internal quality assurance (IQA) system and have been actively participating in Bio-Rad’s External Quality Assessment Program since 2020, ensuring continuous quality improvement.

Diagnostic Sections

Hematology Section

The Hematology Section handles a significant and diverse caseload with precision, including peripheral smears, complete blood counts, and bone marrow examinations. With state-of-the-art High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) systems, we deliver reliable thalassemia screenings with exceptional precision.

Chemical Pathology Section

Equipped with advanced analyzers, this section handles over 1,000 samples daily for routine and specialized biochemical testing. Our services include liver and kidney panels, tumor markers, cardiac biomarkers, and more, ensuring timely and accurate results.

Microbiology Section

Offering comprehensive testing for bacterial and fungal cultures, sensitivity testing, and parasitology, this section delivers precise and timely diagnostic services essential for combating infectious diseases.

Histopathology Section

This section specializes in tissue analysis for conditions like cancers and inflammatory diseases, utilizing advanced histological techniques and offering procedures such as Fine Needle Aspiration Cytology (FNAC) and frozen section analysis.

Blood Bank

The Blood Bank provides safe and efficient blood products, including Red Cell Concentrates and Platelet Concentrates. With stringent quality control protocols, it supports both registered and emergency patients.

Molecular Pathology

This laboratory delivers advanced diagnostics with cutting-edge technology, including fully automated Hologic Panther systems and the upcoming BioFire FilmArray system for rapid syndromic testing.
