NEUROSURGERY

The Department of Neurosurgery, MTI HMC Peshawar consists of Neurosurgery ward, Head Injury and combined ICU.

Brief Introduction:

The Department of Neurosurgery, MTI HMC Peshawar consists of Neurosurgery ward, Head Injury and combined ICU. Neurosurgery ward consists of 35 beds, while ICU has 8 beds. Patient care means that the doctors & ancillary staff are not only working in the wards but also are using the OPDs, major OT for doing so. It may be mentioned that the major OT not only has operating rooms but also a recovery room & equipments suite besides other areas such as staff rooms.

Managing patients does not only mean treating disease but involves making sure that this is done in a way which is comfortable both for the patients and relatives, ethical, logical & cost effective. It must be kept in mind that all medical personnel are part of a team each having their own roles in patient care. In dealing with patients & relatives medical personnel should be polite at all times. White coat, name tags & a professional turnout is emphasized for all doctors. Surgical scrub dress is mandatory for all the junior and senior surgeons.

A concerted effort is needed to prevent errors. Standardized systems are needed to minimize the need to rely on human nature, which is rather imperfect.
